ICY WINDY CITY SUNRISE...

Woke up randomly on this morning at 530 and I couldnt fall back asleep no matter how hard I tried. I cant put my finger on it, but something was telling me to bundle up and head out into the cold, so I got up and headed out. I was rewarded by one of the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen Chicago!!! Totally worth it IMO!!!
Wabash Blue Hour...

Navy Pier Blue Hour...

One of the best view in the city is even better with Christmas lights in the distance. The clouds this evening made for some nice drama in the sky and even though it was chilly out, it was a great night to shoot. If you look closely at the top of the Hancock Building you can see the red and green lights glowing brightly for the holiday season!!!
Epic Chicago Sunset...

Its days like these that fuel my drive to capture the beauty that mother nature possesses. Magical sunsets like this dont happen everyday here in Chicago, that's for sure. Over the past couple of days the storm cell over Lake Michigan has been producing some dramatic skies and I have definitely been enjoying watching the display. Early on in the day I had a feeling that sunset was going to be decent, but I never expected it would turn out like this!!
Stormy North Ave Sunset...

I captured this moment in the middle of October 2012 on my way home from the LTD studio. It was a chilly and slightly overcast day with cumulonimbus clouds passing quickly overhead. I heard that there was lightning in the forecast, so I headed out to the point to try and catch either a nice sunset or some lightning in the sky. I waited patiently for about an hour or so while the sun set behind the clouds. I was about to call it quits when these really energetic clouds came over the horizon. It was the perfect moment and the clouds seemed to just absorb all of the orange glow from the sunset behind them. I could see the the rain coming in the distance, but I couldnt resist staying out there to shoot. I kept thinking to myself, "I have time, the rain wont be here for a few minutes, I can make it, just one last panoramic to make sure I get the perfect light." I knew I had pushed it a bit to long as I started to hear the rain moving in swiftly. Just as I put my camera in my bag, I felt it. The storm came in so hard the wind nearly knocked me over. I tried to run, but it was no use, I was drenched from head to toe. I moved as quickly as I could, hoping that my camera bag would keep enough water out so that my gear would survive. When I got back to my truck, I was totally soaked, freezing cold, and after making sure my gear was ok, was totally stoked that I got this shot.
Sunset View From Northerly Island...

This view from Northerly Island is one of my favorites in the city and after seeing some huge storm clouds in the sky on my way home from the studio, I figured sunset would be pretty decent. Between working at the studio and shooting other events, my schedule is soo busy these day that I have to be proactive and make time to get out and continue to shoot landscapes because after all, capturing epic landscapes is and always will be my passion. After a quick session at the gym, I headed out to the island, hoping the clouds would stick around long enough for the sunset. I was not disappointed. :)
Buckingham Blue Hour Panoramic...

Chicago's Buckingham fountain all lit up on this beautiful summer evening. Buckingham Fountain, of Chicago's famous land marks, is located in the center of Grant Park. Dedicated in 1927, the fountain was donated to the city by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother, Clarence Buckingham and was constructed at a cost of $750,000. It is one of the largest fountains in the world and was built in a rococo wedding cake style. It was inspired by the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles and is meant to allegorically represent Lake Michigan. It operates from April to October, with regular water shows and evening color-light shows.

Cloud Gate in B&W...

Cloud Gate is a public sculpture crafted by Anish Kapoor and is the centerpiece of Millennium Park in Chicago, Illinois. Completed in 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its bean-like shape. The Bean is made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together and has been highly polished so that their are no visible seams. It is 33 by 66 by 42 feet and weighs roughly 110 tons. Believed to have been inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture's surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline at a number of different angles. On the underside is the "omphalos" (Greek for "navel"), which is a concave chamber that warps and multiplies reflections similar to a fun house mirror. Even with its relatively brief history, "The Bean" has quickly become a top tourist destination and an iconic landmark to the city of Chicago.
Stormy Chicago Sunset...

There was a lot of energy in the air on this warm summer afternoon in Chicago. Thunderstorms rolled though the city all day but the clouds broke up just enough at sunset to put some amazing color in the sky. Unfortunately there was a Bears pre-season game on this night and there was gridlock traffic all over the palace. Most of the other good spots to shoot the skyline from were closed so I drove frantically to make it to this spot to make it here before all the color was gone. I ran all the way from the parking lot with just enough time to set up my tripod and camera, snapped 1 photo, and then it started pouring. Walking back to the Jeep was not fun, I was literally soaked by the time I reached the lot, but at least I got this shot...
