LaSalle Street Blue Hour Panoramic...

Pictured here is LaSalle street, which is the heart of the financial district here in Chicago. The street was nicknamed "The Canyon" due to the tall, steep buildings that lie on both ends of the relatively narrow street, with the Chicago Board of Trade Building as the abrupt end of the apparent box canyon. LaSalle was one of three streets in Chicago to have a tunnel under the Chicago River, the other two being Washington and Van Buren. Constructed in 1869-71 and originally open only to private vehicles and pedestrians, the 2000 foot long tunnel alleviated interruptions from bridge openings due to heavy river traffic. It also served as an escape route during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In the 1880's, the LaSalle tunnel was turned over to cable car companies since they couldn't span the bridges that opened. More improvements were made in 1906, when the tunnel was deepened and widened. It reopened 5 years later to electric street car traffic in 1911. The tunnel was closed permanently in 1939 to make way for subway construction, which now continues to be the heart of Chicago's mass transit system.

Navy Pier Wednesday Night Fireworks Chicago Skyline Panoramic...

Each summer in Chicago, Navy Pier offers up a pretty sick fireworks display every Wednesday and Saturday night. Here is the view of the fireworks display from the North Avenue Beach pier, one of my favorite locations to watch the display. If your in the Chicago area and want to check out the schedule of upcoming displays, you can do so here: http://www.navypier.com/things2do/fireworks.html

Chicago Riverwalk...

With the magnificent Trump Tower on the left and the classic architecture of the Wrigley Building in the distance, the riverwalk is a great place to take a walk and enjoy Chicago's scenery. Located just next to Wacker drive along the main branch of the Chicago River, the riverwalk is home to a number of restaurants, cozy parks, and Official Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. Be sure to check it out on your next visit to Chicago!
Birds Eye Blue Hour...

A southern birds eye view of the Chicago skyline just after sunset. This is the view from the 95th floor of the John Hancock Observatory. Its one of the best views in the city and one can enjoy a decent cup of coffee from their cafe while watching the sunset from high in the sky. While the view is incredible, its actually a pretty challenging spot to shoot from at night because of interior light reflections on the glass so make sure you plan ahead if your planning on shooting up here.
Fullerton Ave Hurricane Sandy Sunset...

This photo was taken on Tuesday, October 30th while Hurricane Sandy was pummeling the east coast and leaving a terrible trail of destruction. Hurricane Sandy was one of the most powerful storms in history and boasted a record setting barometric pressure reading of 940 millibars at its center. The storm was so large that it stretched across more than 1/3rd of the United States. Chicago was just on the edge of Sandy, so the only effects we felt where some large waves on the lake, blowing wind, a bit of rain, and a few epic sunsets.
Micro Magnificent Mile...

Chicago's magnificent mile looking miniature with the aid of a little tilt-shift from the top of the Hancock building. The intersection in the middle of this photo is Chicago and Michigan ave. The castle like structure in the middle of the photo is the Chicago Water Tower, The tower was constructed in 1869 and was one of the only the only buildings in the area to survive the great Chicago fire, While it was originally built to house a large water pump to draw water from the Lake Michigan; it now serves as a Chicago Office of Tourism art gallery.
South Loop Micro Machines...

Having a little fun with the Canon TS-E 24mm 3.5L that Canon sent me to test out for a couple weeks. Besides correcting vertical distortion in buildings, one of the neat things you can do with a tilt-shift lens is make the real world look like micro sized. With the right technique, the effect is pretty cool and I have to say that Il definitely be adding this lens to my collection ASAP!!!!
Fall Storm Over Chicago..

Crazy storm clouds roll in over Chicago on this chilly fall day. I haven't really haven't had time to shoot landscapes over the past couple of weeks and the urge to get out and make some new images has been strong. I have either been way to busy shooting products in the studio, shooting weddings, or selling prints when the conditions have been right and its definitely been left me a bit bummed at times. I'm not complaining because I love being busy and making money, but I definitely need to make a conscious effort to continue to make new landscape images when they present themselves. I knew yesterday when I was leaving the studio and saw the sky was looking pretty epic that I just had to stop on my way to the gym to shoot for a bit. I wasn't sure where to exactly I wanted to go, but figured that this would be a good location since some fall color is finally showing itself here in the city and I haven't photographed from here in a while. Anyways, I spent about an hour or so watching the storm roll through, huddled under my umbrella while the rain came down with varying intensity. It was nice to get out and enjoy the storm and definitely made for some dramatic skies over the city that you don't see everyday.
Fall Pink Chicago Sunset...

I was leaving the gym today when I noticed the skies starting to open up a bit. After a day of nonstop fog, rain, and pretty dreary weather, the storm clouds broke up over Chicago and produced this epic sunset. Here is the view of the skyline from one of my favorite spots on Northerly Island. I had no intention of shooting at all today, but this image is proof of why I always carry my camera with me. You never know when that epic moment will present itself and I always try to be prepared to pull out my camera and capture them!!
